Thomas M. Cole was born March 8, 1950 and has been a life long resident of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Cole received Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1972 and his J.D. Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1975. Subsequent to admission to the Tennessee Bar in 1975, Mr. Cole has practiced in three Knoxville law firms. Mr. Cole is a member of the Knoxville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations. Throughout the years, Mr. Cole's practice has included a relatively wide range of subject areas, including workers' compensation, construction liens, torts (automobile, negligence, products liability, medical malpractice), Social Security disability, black lung, occupational diseases, and mental health law. Mr. Cole has been engaged in both trial and appellate practice. Some of the appellate cases in which Mr. Cole has served as counsel include:

Mr. Cole's litigation representations have included defense and plaintiff assignments.
Over the course of the past several years Mr. Cole has served as counsel during several hundred probable cause commitment hearings on behalf of a mental health hospital facility which is among one of many fine clients of Arnett, Draper & Hagood. During his practice Mr. Cole has been called upon to regularly furnish advice regarding various issues on an as needed and sometimes urgent basis to various mental health care provider and facility clients regarding such topics as commitments, patient rights, records confidentiality, policies and procedures and various other miscellaneous matters. Mr. Cole has served as an invited speaker concerning confidentiality of patient records for seminars for medical records professionals, business or office managers (March, 1990, 1991, 1992, and June 2003). In addition, Mr. Cole has participated as a speaker at the 1996 TAMHO Annual Meeting regarding issues related to confidentiality of mental health patient records. Mr. Cole has presented topics of interest for several seminars for mental health care professionals, e.g., Mental Health and the Law in Tennessee, June 2000, Medical Educational Services; Tennessee Mental Health and the Law 2000, Health ED, LLC.; Mental Health Law 2001: Current Developments in Tennessee, Health ED, LLC.
