Sam Doak graduated from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Finance in 1984 and was a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. He attended law school at The University of Tennessee at Knoxville obtaining his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1988.
Sam has been a Trial attorney for over 30 years. He began his practice in Nashville, Davidson County handling civil and criminal jury trials from the start. In the early 90’s Sam moved with his family to Knoxville where he has practiced ever since.
Sam’s practice now focuses primarily on civil trial and litigation matters ranging from complex construction cases, complex product liability cases, marine product liability cases, commercial disputes, complex domestic dissolutions, employment litigation, trucking/transportation litigation and general insurance defense.
Sam is admitted to practice in all state courts in Tennessee, including the Tennessee Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Sam has been and is active in the Leadership of the Knoxville Bar Association. Sam served as Treasurer, Vice President and ultimately President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Knoxville Bar Association in 2001. He served in various officer roles in the Knoxville Bar Association including Secretary/ Treasurer, Vice President and then President of the KBA in 2010. Sam served on the Knoxville Bar Association’s Board of Governors from 2000 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2010. He has been a Co-Chair on the Knoxville Bar Association Habitat for Humanity Construction Committee from the 1990’s to present and is currently Co-Chair for the KBA Habitat Project for 2020. This will be the 9th Home the KBA has built since 1994 and Sam has been involved in the Leadership of every build.
Sam served in various Leadership positions in the Hamilton Burnette Inns of Court and was President of the Inn in 2016 to 2017. He was inducted into the Knoxville Bar Foundation in 2011. He is a member emeritus of Nucleus Knoxville. Sam has also served as a USTA Tennis Captain for over 10 years taking his USTA teams to State and Sectionals Championships many times.
When not navigating the often murky waters clients find themselves in, Sam enjoys time with his daughter, tennis, boating and sports afield.
