Lewis R. Hagood (Lhagood@adhknox.com) received his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee, graduating first in his class, was Editor-in-Chief of the Tennessee Law Review, Order of the Coif, and Phi Kappa Phi for Academic Achievement. He has focused his practice in the areas of labor and employment discrimination and civil litigation for over forty years, with extensive litigation experience in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate level.

Lewis was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court as a Member of the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners, served as Secretary from 1994-2001, and as President in 2002. For many years was a Contributing Editor for the American Bar Association’s annual publication “The Developing Labor Law”, has authored various published articles in his field, including “Claims of Mental and Emotional Damages in Employment Discrimination Cases”, “Employer’s Duty to Bargain on the National Labor Relationship Act”, “The Role of the Judiciary in Labor Arbitrations”, and “A Brief History of the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners and the Standards for Bar Admission in Tennessee.”

He practices full time, is certified/approved as a Mediator by the federal and state Courts, having successfully conducted hundreds of mediations. He has been professionally recognized in “Best Lawyers in America” (1987-2014); “The Best 101 Lawyers in Tennessee”; Business Tennessee (January ‘04-‘05); “The Best 150 Lawyers in Tennessee”; Business Tennessee (January ‘06-2011); Mid-South Super Lawyers (2006-10).

Lewis is a member of the Knoxville, American and Tennessee Bar Associations, the Tennessee Bar Foundation, the Knoxville Bar Foundation, The Tennessee Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators and various community organizations, including the Knoxville Symphony Society Board.
